Resilience Spotlight: Eli Goldberg Navigating Uncertainty with Technology and Human Ingenuity

1. Overview of who I am

My name is Eli Goldberg, and I have recently made a significant leap from Australia all the way to the United Kingdom to immerse myself in new challenges and broaden my understanding of resilience on an international stage. From an early age, I have been fascinated by how people and organisations deal with major disruptions, and by how technology can play a key role in navigating these moments of uncertainty.

This early fascination evolved into a determined pursuit of knowledge and a willingness to take risks. I soon found myself combining my passion for resilience with a strong focus on technology.

To me, these two fields go hand in hand: technology serves as a powerful enabler, while resilience provides the guiding principle that ensures businesses remain adaptive, nimble, and ready for whatever challenges lie ahead.

My role as Head of International Partnerships and a Resilience Consultant at Battleground Group brought me from Melbourne to London, and it was no accident that I chose the UK over other global centres like New York. London is often considered the epicentre for resilience, continuously shaping and refining standards and regulatory frameworks. By being in an environment that leads the charge in resilience, I can learn directly from those pushing the boundaries, attend conferences that explore the latest thinking, and collaborate with professionals who challenge my assumptions and encourage me to refine my approach.

2. What resilience means to me and how I apply resilience

Resilience is more than just bouncing back; it’s about building enduring capabilities that allow organisations to continually adapt, learn, and evolve. Resilience is dynamic, and that’s exactly why I love it—it’s never static, and it encourages creative problem-solving and forward thinking.

Lately, I have been exploring how to refine Business continuity plans in line with the upcoming standards and thinking about how to design Business Impact Assessments in a simpler way. I hope this will help companies move from a purely bottom-up approach which has been focusing on individual business units and processes, towards a more strategic, top-down approach. With emerging standards like the revised ISO guidelines and regulatory frameworks such as DORA and CPS230, organisations need to think more holistically. Instead of getting lost in granular detail, they could identify the critical processes linked directly to strategic objectives, allowing them to manage their resources and focus their efforts more effectively.

Living in London has strengthened this perspective. The city’s position at the forefront of resilience standards means I can test out these ideas in an environment that encourages innovation. My ultimate goal here is to deepen my knowledge, not just by reading up on new regulations, but by engaging with others who bring different experiences and insights. I may not have grey hair (yet!), but I’ve learned that it’s the combination of experience, curiosity, and empathy that makes this work so meaningful.
